چکیده

Hypotheses involving mediation are common in the behavioral sciences. Mediation exists when a predictor affects a dependent variable indirectly through at least one intervening variable, or mediator. Methods to assess mediation involving multiple simultaneous mediators have received little attention in the methodological literature despite a clear need. We provide an overview of simple and multiple mediation and explore three approaches that can be used to investigate indirect processes, as well as methods for contrasting two or more mediators within a single model. We present an illustrative example, assessing and contrasting potential mediators of the relationship between the helpfulness of socialization agents and job satisfaction. We also provide SAS and SPSS macros, as well as Mplus and LISREL syntax, to facilitate the use of these methods in applications.

The why and the how of goal pursuit: Self-determination, goal process cognition, and participation in physical exercise

Objectives: To examine goal process cognition as a mediator of the relationship between self-determined motivational ratings and strenuous exercise participation. Design: Cross-Sectional Survey. Methods: University students (N 1⁄4 535) identified their most important exercise goal and rated this goal according to the nine goal process dimensions of the Goal Systems Assessment Battery (GSAB; [Ka...

Exemplary care as a mediator of the effects of caregiver subjective appraisal and emotional outcomes.

PURPOSE Exemplary care (EC) is a new construct encompassing care behaviors that warrants further study within stress process models of dementia caregiving. Previous research has examined EC within the context of cognitively intact older adult care recipients (CRs) and their caregivers (CGs). This study sought to expand our knowledge of quality of care by investigating EC within a diverse sample...

Predicting desire for institutional placement among racially diverse dementia family caregivers: the role of quality of care.

PURPOSE Literature on institutionalization of patients with dementia has not considered the role of caregivers' quality of care, which encompasses caregivers' exemplary care (EC) behaviors and caregivers' potentially harmful behaviors (PHBs) toward care recipients. This study sought to understand the role of quality of care in mediating between caregiving stressors and caregiver desire to insti...

Comparison of Bootstrap and Jackknife Variance Estimators in Linear Regression: Second Order Results

In an extension of the work of Liu and Singh (1992), we consider resampling estimates for the variance of the least squares estimator in linear regression models. Second order terms in asymptotic expansions of these estimates are derived. By comparing the second order terms, certain generalised bootstrap schemes are seen to be theoretically better than other resampling techniques under very gen...

آزمون اثر غیرمستقیم تعارض کار-خانواده بر خشنودی زندگی – یک الگوی چند میانجیگر

The purpose of this study was testing of indirect effect of work-family conflict on life satisfaction of Shiraz hospitals nurses (340 persons) through testing of a multi-mediator model. Using a multi-mediator approach, indirect effect of work-family conflict on life satisfaction was simultaneously tested through two mediators of job satisfaction and family satisfaction. In this research it was ...
